Top design trends you'll see more of in 2020

Design is always developing and changing and next year we will be seeing more of these shifts in style preferences used by both artistic individuals and corporate businesses and their household brands. So make sure you are in the loop and have a look at JNPcreative’s top 5 upcoming design tends for 2020 that you must know!

A focus on minimalism

Design has always been getting simpler and more refined but this year we are going to see even more of this in an array of media platforms. Digital/web/app platforms will be making sure their designs are clean, easy to understand and use a flatter style of design (something that is already being done but will intensify over the coming years). This will mean that designs will have any extra flair removed and we’ll be seeing more easily digestible designs being produced.

This minimalistic approach is also being replicated in print as well. Customers want easily digestible, relevant content that is easy to find, so by transferring what were originally mainly digital design principles to the medium of print it is making the world of design that much easier for our audiences to understand and engage with.

Type only approach

Here at JNPcreative we’ve noticed type only design is becoming more and more popular, have you noticed this too? It is a clean way of designing that allows for an effective impact on customers which is fantastic for brands and their marketing as it allows them to deliver messages that are straight and to the point with ease and simplicity.

The ways fonts are being used will be changing too, the days of having only one font in a design are fading and a new door is opening to designing with multiple fonts in the same composition, something that used to be deemed as a bad design practice but hey 2020 is bringing other cool designs with it so why not explore the possibilities of type only design.

GIFs and animation

Keep your eyes peeled for more used of moving imagery throughout 2020! GIFS and animation are being used more and more for marketing purposes as they allow for fun and innovative ways to display brands and campaigns to audiences.

JNPcreative recommend using gifs as a way to animate your company logo. It is a quirky way to enhance your brand’s identity and is something that will make you stand out from the crowd as the use of gifs in this way is still fairly new. In 2020 we are sure that you’ll be seeing a lot more of these GIF animations around.

Image and text masking

A simple effect that leaves a lasting impression. The technique of masking an image with wording or a numbers is a way to really make typography stand out, it adds an almost 3D depth to the design, giving the finished creative a mysterious and quirky look.

This technique is great for websites as well as for print so you’ll be seeing more of it around in 2020!

Liquid elements

Designing with the elements in mind will keep you ahead of the game going into 2020. Fluidity in design moves away from the conventions of rigid edges, and curves and now allows design to be soft and portray a sense of movement and change.

These fluid elements can also have transparencies applied as well as gradients to achieve an even more natural and textured aesthetic.

To summarise, 2020 is going to see a lot of change and a development on the trends in 2019. Here at JNPcreative you’ll be seeing more of the design trends talked about in this article in our future work.
